It’s Waste Reduction Week, and two pieces of related Canmore news.

First, it looks like recycling will get a little more convenient in town with the town passing a borrowing bylaw to obtain cash for animal-proof recycling bins.  Over 70 bins will be installed in town at locations that currently have two adjacent garbage receptacles.  One of those will be replaced with a new blue bin, making it easier for locals to get their recycling done.

I also spoke today with Peter Duck this week from Bow Valley Waste Managament.  In the past they’ve had a great relationship with Lafarge and have been able to send them recycled glass which is used in their processes.  Unfortunately, due to the presence of unfit items in the glass recycling stream, Lafarge has been forced to stop accepting local glass.  Of course, they’d like to get that situation fixed.  A quick rinse of your glass recycling, removing metal lids, and paying attention to what items are acceptable for the recycling bins are a few things that Peter advocated in my interview with him:
