Ti'nu Deer Lane

Banff council made a big leap into the affordable housing market Monday, passing first reading of a borrowing bylaw to get the ball rolling on development of a new below-market housing project on Deer Lane.

Banff Mayor Karen Sorensen told me that ‘Ti’nu’ (a derivative of “come in” in the Nakoda language) may be the project she’s most proud of being involved with in over 12 years on council.  She spoke about the details of the structure, units, and rents, and how the funding model should keep the project from being a burden on taxpayers.

An open house has tentatively been set for September to give the public a chance to take a look and provide feedback, and details should be on the Banff Housing website soon.  In the meantime, you can find the information here in the August 22nd agenda package – scroll to page 79 for a breakdown of the numbers and page 89 for the project presentation and details.
