One of the big topics of conversation in Canmore recently is the subject of the amount of illegal short-term vacation rentals that have been popping up in our community.  What’s the best way to deal with this growing situation?

Just like with public transit, Banff is well ahead of Canmore on this issue.  Back in 2014 council directed staff to proactively investigate and enforce regulations on listings that have appeared on websites like AirBnB and VRBO.  Banff council heard an update on the results of that enforcement at their meeting on Monday.  According to Mayor Karen Sorensen about 25% of the illegal operations that were shut down ended up applying for and becoming licensed B&Bs!  We also spoke about the recruiting effort for Town of Banff committees, information for potential candidates for the upcoming municipal election, and new provincial funding for local transit.
