Mountain FM is extremely excited to present The Fates live in concert at artsPlace this Saturday night.  It’s our second show under the Mountain FM Presents banner and I’m thrilled to say that, just like the Cori Brewster show in the fall, this one is SOLD OUT!

The Fates’ music has special meaning for both Mountain FM and me personally.  I still remember their ‘Til We Have Faces CD crossing our desk in 2004.  Back then the local music scene was pretty quiet compared to today and there certainly wasn’t a lot of studio quality recorded music available from Canmore or Banff artists.  This album was full of fantastic songs with tight harmonies.  The trio of Lori Reid, Lin Elder, and Jenny Allen became the first local band Mountain FM played in regular rotation with songs like Let It Go, Heal Me, and later Can’t Let Go.  For me, going to a Fates show was one of my first dates with my now-wife Lauren.  I saw them live numerous times and was a big fan.  They were a staple on the local music scene in the mid-to-late 2000s.  And then The Fates went quiet…

Well, not really.  Lori and Jenny both put out solo albums and Lin continued to work on other projects.  But after a decade of relentless touring The Fates needed a break.  This was six years ago.  And then, last summer, opportunity came knocking once again, leading to a Beatles-esque secret show reunion on the patio of the Canmore Hotel.

I spoke with Lori, Lin, and Jenny about what brought them back together and why things feel more relaxed this time around.  Lori also talked about another fantastic talent, Samm Bailey, who will open the show on Saturday.

Mountain FM Presents is a collaboration with artsPlace, giving established local artists and up-and-coming local acts an opportunity to showcase their music and talents in front of an attentive, paying crowd at our community arts centre. Thanks to everyone who has supported the musicians and series so far and stay tuned for future show news!
