My wife Lauren and her friend Lyndsey had a great time last month at one of Creating Dharma‘s concrete statue paint parties! Using concrete sourced from the nearby mountains, participants get to share a glass or two of wine, great conversation, and an opportunity to create their own works of art from the statues molded in advance. Here’s how Lauren described the evening:

It was a lot of fun. You choose your statue, and there were a lot of cute ones– hedgehogs, bears, turtles, bunnies, Buddhas, gnomes– and get your paint and go (with wine, of course). It was cool to see how differently everyone painted theirs. Talked to the owners a bit, and they hand pour all of the statues in their garage using latex molds. After you’re done painting, the statue goes outside to be sprayed, and while that’s happening you’re given a little concrete shot glass and heart to paint. Everyone seemed to have a lot of fun, and the creations were really cool!

I think Lauren’s bunnies and Lyndsey’s hedgehog turned out nicely! Keep an eye on the Creating Dharma Facebook page for upcoming Paint Party events in Canmore, Banff, Exshaw, and beyond.
