I’m sure many Bow Valley folks remember Charlie Butler. He was a staple on the local music scene for many years, known to many as the guy who would perform great music while you enjoyed tasty food at the old Bandoleer’s Restaurant in Dead Man’s Flats. You’d see him performing at hotels and other live music venues throughout the year. When I was organizing the music at the annual Relay For Life fundraiser he was always one of my first phone calls.

After many years performing music on cruise ships and international hotels, Charlie is back in the Bow Valley and told me he was worried people would have forgotten about him.  Those worries were laid to rest last month when he debuted his new musical project at artsPlace and sold out the venue.  Charlie B & The Groove Crew is already earning accolades, winning Best Blues Band in Southern Alberta at the 2017 International Blues Challenge which has earned them a trip to Memphis and the chance to win an even bigger prize.  Charlie stopped by the station to talk about his new band, spin a tune off an upcoming album they’re working on, and encourage people to check them out at the Banff Legion on New Year’s Eve.

Check out music from Charlie B & The Groove Crew here, and check them out on New Year’s Eve at the Banff Legion. Advance tickets $15, or $20 at the door.
