The community of Canmore was built, literally and figuratively, on our mining past.  But with the operations dismantled over 40 years ago and the shafts all sealed up the experience of being inside one of Canmore’s mines lived only in the memories of those who worked in them.  Until now.

Using state of the art visual and audio technology, paired with historical records and the experiences of former miners, the Canmore Museum & Geoscience Centre has unveiled Inside The Mine: A Virtual Reality Experience that’s as close as one will ever get to being inside the No. 4 Canmore Mine.

I spoke with Jerry Auld who created the project as well as Museum Director Jason Gariepy who told me how much people of all ages have been enjoying this new experience.

Inside The Mine: A Virtual Reality Experience is now open at the Canmore Museum & Geoscience Centre and included in the regular admission price.
