Canmore local Afton Brazzoni loves dogs and loves good stories about them!  She’s combined those passions in her first book, Shop Dogs of Canmore, sharing photos and stories of the many animals who go to work with their owners in businesses all over town.

Afton told me the book has been receiving a lot of positive attention since its release.

Shop Dogs of Canmore is available locally at Alberta’s Own Marketplace, Mut Hutt, Ammonite Factory, Black Dog Cafe, Bicycle Cafe, and the Bow Valley SPCA. You can also pick it up online here.

Check the book out to read about stories like:

  • Murdoch, the shop dog at Russell and Russell Design Studios who was born in a wolf’s den and is part wolf puppy.
  • Shadow, the shop dog at Black Dog Cafe who is a one-year-old Great Dane and still gets chased by the smallest dogs at the dog park.
  • Bruno, the shop dog at Canmore Lube & Muffler who doesn’t mind getting a little grease on his fur, and who his owner describes as a celebrity at the shop (people stop by and ask if he’s there).
  • Jack, the shop dog at Canmore Raft Tours who joins in the river floats with the humans! He’s 1/2 husky, 1/2 wolf.
  • Max, the shop dog at Wapiti Sports who eats toast with marmalade every morning, even though his owner doesn’t like marmalade!
  • Nikki, the shop dog at Sturgeon Law whose favourite food is crunchy lettuce, and who sleeps at the boardroom table during client meetings.
  • Wapi, the shop dog at Ammonite Factory whose first language (after ‘dog’) is French.
