What better way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the family than by whipping up your very own version of the famous McDonald’s “Shamrock Shake”?

This super easy recipe would be fun to create with the kids today! (And we’ve included a couple additional ingredients to make an “adult” version if you like, just scroll all the way down.)

Ingredients:
3 large scoops vanilla ice cream (about 1/4 c. each)
1/4 c. heavy cream or milk
1/2 tsp. mint extract (you can use peppermint, but stick to plain mint if you want it to taste most like the original Shamrock Shake)
6 drops green food coloring

Whipped cream, for topping
Maraschino cherry, for topping

Directions:

1. In a blender, mix vanilla ice cream, heavy cream, peppermint extract, and food coloring until completely smooth, then pour into a glass. (Use a cocktail shaker if you don’t have a blender.)

2. Top with whipped cream and a cherry.

This will make two shakes.

If you want to make the adult version……you can add 2 oz. of creme de menthe in place of the mint extract, and add 2 oz. of vanilla vodka.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
