Today, on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Rogers Sports & Media has multiple ways to gather, listen, learn more, reflect and support:

  • At 7 p.m., Citytv will broadcast Runs Through Their Blood: A Life Impacted, an emotionally-driven documentary produced out of the Weengushk Film Institute by Indigenous students enrolled in the film school. The film documents the effects of intergenerational trauma through the history of residential schools, how it is part of the everyday lives of the community, and how a community is moving forward to change. The film will air commercial-free on Citytv, immediately followed by an interview with the filmmakers and Cityline’s Tracy Moore.
  • Breakfast Television is honouring the day with a special show featuring stories from Indigenous communities.
  • OMNI Television’s Punjabi Focus will air a 30-minute special edition of its current affairs show with Indigenous stories.
  • Starting at 6:30 p.m. ET, Sportsnet will be joining forces with the Blue Jays to air full coverage of the Blue Jays opening ceremony… recognizing the day through land acknowledgement plaques installed inside the Rogers Centre, the first pitch will be thrown by a Residential School Survivor, and the Canadian national anthem will be sung in three languages including English, French and Anishinaabemowin.
  • Sportsnet will also be sharing original content throughout the day across its TV, digital and social channels. This content includes:
    • Essay and video production from Jordan Nolan of what September 30 signifies for Indigenous communities
    • Profile on former goaltender Devin Buffalo and his work with Indigenous youth
  • TSC (Today’s Shopping Choice) is continuing to sell Orange Shirts, designed by two-spirited Ojbway artist Patrick Hunter.  All proceeds from the 2021 shirt sales will be divided between the Orange Shirt Society and the Residential School Survivor Society (IRSSS), a B.C. based organization providing essential services to residential school survivors, their families, and those dealing with intergenerational trauma. Additionally, Waneek Horn-Miller joins Jeanne Beker for Style Matters at 7 p.m. ET for discussion on Truth and Reconciliation.
