ROB MURRAY: Tanya Piercey is the coordinator for Santas Anonymous in Banff and Lake Louise. This is something that’s been around for quite some time here in the Bow Valley, hasn’t it?

TANYA PIERCEY: We are hitting our 37th year.

RM: Last year was something of a milestone, not only having to rejig a lot of things due to COVID, but just the amount of applications you received.

TP: Last year, we had a record breaking number of applications and we believe it’s going to be high this year again.

RM: How many did you have last year?

TP: We had over 900 people. Normally it’s between 400 and 500.

RM: A lot of need in the community, and a lot of ways to support Santas Anonymous this year. Let’s talk about the Fill your Freezer fundraiser. What’s this all about?

TP: It starts November 12th, and orders can go until November 22nd. You’re able to stock up on your local restaurant quality meats, sausages, cheese boxes, pies, chicken, pizzas, and of course the popular box of bacon.

RM: You are holding a big fundraising event this year. What can you tell us about the auction?

TP: It’s going to be held in Melissa’s on November 20th. It’s going to be our annual fundraising silent auction and dance event. They auction will start around 5:00 and the bands will play out throughout the evening. Families are also welcome and children can attend until 7:00 as there’s going to be a children’s auction.

RM: If people just want to donate, are there ways for them to do that?

TP: At the Banff Town Hall, or you’re able to do an e-transfer through the Santas Anonymous website, sat as anonymous, We are also offering charitable receipts.

RM: What about people who are interested in applying for a hamper?

TP: Applications start on November 22nd and the end date will be December 6th. It is for Banff and Lake Louise residents in financial need over the holiday season. You’re welcome to do it on our website, and the Town of Banff will have it listed on their website. It’s going to be for gift cards from two grocery stores so that way they’re able to pick food that they’re in need of.
